Once I learned to remove the Q-Jet's secondary metering rods during (rebuild) assembly, then drop them in after the air horn is on... I no longer hated the Quadrajet

Funniest part to me is a 4.8L with 317's and an LS9 cam has gone faster than most people in this thread, as long as you bolt the wuhan windbender to it.

I still think this combo needs some intake port adapters to really shine.

This is exactly why I created this thread This is what upsets me as I go along and keep learning in the hobby I find that People can bolt together some pretty terrible inefficient stuff that runs absolutely horrible naturally aspirated, far worse than stock, however with enough stall converter and boost it might move out of its own way with some RPM and fuel, maybe sometimes quicker than a less complicated well-sorted n/a combo but It's only because The shade tree tuning has gotten so good that any pathetic turd can be made to idle and drive once it's warmed up no matter how low the cranking compression, How poorly thought out it can get lol. The 228/230 cam spec is probably wrong for about 99.9% of the engines it's installed in but it opens the damn valves more haha

All it takes is good heads and compression and the right valve events to make power, You may think that a 4.8 with dished pistons and 317's with ls9 cam is the worst combination possible when the fact is the only thing it's lacking is compression and boost takes care of that. That combo with boost will make more power than most people can use on the street. You can make massive amounts of power with a low compression setup and the appropriate amount of boost. I'd like to see someone build and test that combo, It may lack on the low end but once boost comes into play I bet you could get over 1,000hp out if it.

An engine will actually run rather well with low cranking compression. I've heard of old school roots blown stuff as low as 7:1 and rather large cams not 3/4 race cams but actual full race cams lol, Then you had a lot of factory SBC engines with 8.5:1 and some were even 8.25:1, They could still be made to run decent with a small cam upgrade, Nothing like we have now but they could put down some rubber. I sure don't miss those days, Performance was pathetic unless you built your engine or grabbed one make in the 60's. People are spoiled now and don't even realize it.

Now that we have had our fun, is there a way to block a thread from coming up in search results? I would hate for anyone to Lazarus this **** up 10 years from now, lol.

Oh it will be twice as fun in ten years when we're all commuting in an electric self driving transportation appliance and trying to find something interesting to read.

it'll be more like 30yrs, They plan now is a 50% split electric/gas sales by 2035 if nothing pushes it back further, I'm not scared of electric...they will be insanely fast by then and will make gas powered performance look like a novelty.

I do that now. The Leaf is my back and forth 10 miles to work appliance. Oops, just noticed the self driving part of your comment. That could be a while.

What did you do to the valve train? I just got scared into a 228R cam choice over that Comp NSR Drift one because I don't wanna blow my engine up with a 7500 rpm redline.

Side note - Altezza taillights? People still play Gran Turismo 3?

That's sucks that you were sold on the 228 I'm sorry about that.

I changed the cam, timing chain, valve springs, valve seals, and the pushrods that's it. Yes I love GT and I put the altezza's on my other car that's a stock auto X car because I race that one in the stock class against guys in late model BMW's and Cadillacs so I needed some bling.

Yeah I'm sorry too. May not be too late to cancel my order.
Curious...what pushrod thickness are you running with your cam and what rockers?

0.080 wall BTR pushrods, a bit longer for extra preload with the stock longer travel lifters, and stock OEM rockers that's it
