Default Wanting to turbo a stock 4.8

Hello. Im new to this group.
I have done ls swaps before but only stock swaps. So with saying that Im still trying to learn all the ways to build a reliable ls engine that can hold power.
I am currently wanting to use a complete stock 4.8 motor and turbo it. What cam and what turbo could I use on it to get the most hp for cheap? or what all do I need to be able to get the most out out it?
I seen on here that Stock48 has a great cam for this application. An may have some good advice for what Im wanting. But Im not sure how to get in touch and talk to anyone on here. If anyone else has good advice or knows how I can get the most out of my stock 4.8 for cheap please let me know. Anything helps! Thanks

Wanna do it cheep? Turbo the stock 4.8. Many here have done it and kick lots of butt. If it blows? Buy another junkyard 4.8 or 5.3.

Whats the power goal? Stick or auto? Street or race? A stock 4.8 will handle a ton of power, but answers to those questions will dictate what size cam (if any) and turbo size.

Junk yard 4.8 + turbo/supercharger of choice+ all the misc bolt ons= complete. Let it eat. I don't know that I would even mess with the cam or heads.

Doing a similar build myself, I was under the impression that if the engine came out of a full size truck/suv that the factory cam might make a good number but in the wrong place and drivability will suck. Especially if youre tossing a stalled auto behind it.

As a great person once told me, it depends. There are a lot of variables, but that could be the case. Worst case, cam it.

Simple, Sloppy Mechanics +Richard Holdner have the answer
  • Sloppy Stage 2 cam, or Turbo Summit stage 2 cam, you could go stage 3. + VALVESPRINGS (pac 1218 or 1219)
  • 78mm billet china turbo from VS Racing or comparable.
  • plenty of fuel (flow matched injectors)
Remember, any cam is a turbo cam.

I've been there. Nice cams, nice turbo.

It is the perfect mix on not to wild and not too small

Please dont overthink it as we all do. Just look at 10 hrs of sloppy mechanics videos and that is all

If you're wanting the most power for cheap, I would throw in some valve springs on the stock cam and go with some boost.

Dont even look at the cam bearings, please make yourself this favor

If you want, change head gaskets and china studs. Still... I managed to use the 4.8 with stock gaskets, and no studs
