Default Must coolant pressure bottle be present.

Hello I'm 5.3l swapping my 98 jeep cherokee. Running into a bit of a cooling hose problem. My question to anyone who can help, do I need to have the surge bottle as part of the cooling equation? Or can I bypass it?

I'm not sure what you mean by a "Surge Bottle". Cooling systems usually have an expansion tank or a recovery tank. Here's an article that might help you: http://blog.cantonracingproducts.com...on_vs_recovery

I'm running my 1970 Chevy El Camino without an expansion tank. The only problem I see with this is that I can't fill my radiator all the way to the top with coolant. Some room needs to left for coolant expansion from heating and mine settles to a point about an inch and a half down from the bottom of the cap hole once it cools back down. And I have no problem with cooling at this level even with the AC on.

The surge tank/expansion tank is helpful when the radiator sits lower than the engine.
If your radiator cap is the highest point in the cooling system you don't need to worry about it at all.

Why would you want to eliminate the recovery tank...???

A lot of older cars never had them anyway, it's not required. You just have to leave some room in the radiator for coolant to expand, don't fill it all the way up.
