Default Chain timing dampeners

Hello,
I am rebuilding my old 2002 Piston Slapping --Lifters Ticking -- but other that sound 5.3 LM7.
Bigger is better pistons, bearings, a good Cloyes timing set----
So my question is,
Do I need a Timing chain dampener? It did not come with one [ No predrilled bolt holes] and the MELLINGBD410DBRKT with comes with mixed reviews.

I would rather drill and tap the block if----1. I need a dampener and 2. could find out where to drill. Unless eyeballing the location is good enough.

Your thoughts and comments please. Thanks

You don't "need" it, but it's a good thing to add.

I'd recommend drilling the holes rather than the one that goes to the cam retainer bolts. Eyeballing is accurate enough as far as I can tell. Locate it properly, mark with a punch.

Since I have been piling up parts for a cam swap Ive also been researching these. Ive cammed a few 5.3's over the years and never installed a damper. General consensus I found while searching was its great for manual cars that get auto-crossed. I dont think I am going to mess with putting one in my A4 LS1 when I swap cams/chains.

Default Thanks

Thanks RB04AV and 99Silver6.0,
Looks like it is a Definite Maybe.
I can see where there is rapid RPM changes that would cause the chain slack to vibrate out and in where a dampener would help.
I will think it over some more.
