Default Max effort must haves

Hey guys, nearing the final stages of my 14:1 ps1 build for my nova. Just curious if I’m missing anything that would help me out.

25% UDP
holkey split race intake
4 barrel TB
custom grind cam
heads are as good as I can afford


Don’t see where rockers would benefit
the only thing I can think of is a vacuum pump, which I’m looking into. Any other Bolton stuff that would be advantageous I’m missing?

Your gonna turn some rpm with that setup. What oil pump and pan are you using? What pushrods? Forgive me if you posted in other thread.

ive got an aftermarket steel pan, holds like 8 quarts at the full line. No bypass, ported dod oil pump with pressure controlled externally. Haven’t ordered pushrods yet but I’ll by stepping up from the normal 5/16 stuff

If you can fit them run a 3/8” .095 wall pushrod. Manton will make them for you and turn them around crazy quick.

Only because you brought it up...billet rocker arm pedestal stands can be had for $100 and I would do that at a minimum if you’re going to use stock rockers on said build. Goes without saying trunnions.

Max effort high rpm build - I'd look into this.

Balanced Camshaft

One of the big time cam guru's Mike Jones likes to make sure the cam & timing sets are balanced etc. I think it helps with reduced valve train harmonics etc.

3/8 push rods for sure

With the high rpm, for the UD I'd want an ATI 25 percent

And of course what the others listed.

At the rpm you want. I think this one of those cases where a set of heads will add some serious power.

I think a 4500 TB would gain on what you are doing. The 4150tb's are not that large. I saw a test which seemed fairly legit, 11hp gain on the dyno on a high 600's hp LS going from a fast 1375cfm TB, to a 4500 TB with adapter on the same 4150 single plane intake. Might even gain more in the car under acceleration. 1/4 mile run isn't a dyno test. Dyno is just a tool, can't always measure how the car responds in the real world in a WOT run.

Every little bit helps. Possibly another 1 tenth from ewp/short belt mod. I think i recall years ago the SAM team dropped 2 whole tenths from going ewp and no pwr steer and short belt mod on one of their cars.

Then there's a vacuum pump, which would have to gain at the rpm you will be turning.

Also, 1 7/8 headers in my experience need 3.5 collectors, not 3". Then you can taper down from there to suit what the car likes. Try it with and without some 12" long 3.5" extensions.

Index the spark plugs is another one.

freeing power is more important than adding power. Probably worth 5-10rw all said and done but rev much better
