Default Oil Pump Comparison

hey everyone,

I am going to be doing a cam swap next weekend and I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and swap out the oil pump while I am there.

I have a 99 Z28 with the old oil pump and was the 2 different options listed:

1) TSP's Ported LS6 Oil Pump for $148.71 (includes shipping and tax)

2) GM Parts direct LS6 Oil Pump for $67.01 (includes shipping, tax not applicable)

I have searched but cannot find a comparison between these two pumps. So what are your opinions/experiences?

Thanks ahead

You would have to use the mark IV eyeball to tell the difference. The ported one will supply more oil pressure and volume. It's a simple game of volume. If you look closely you will see that the flow chambers and openings are opened up or (ground out) quite a bit. In some cases twice the flow can be achieved. If I had to choose it would be the TSP pump because they will have been more aggressive in their porting.

TSP all the way, unless you can port your own, and well.

LS6 will be fine.
With my 01, I'm not going to change it. For H/C application ported is overkill. The few pumps that failed were 00 and older. I would use the extra money to get a J-wis chain, that is if you didn't already buy the "double roller".

are these the correct/up-to-date gm part numbers

gm part # 12563964 --- LS6 Oil Pump
gm part # 12557752 --- LS6 Oil Pump O-Ring

I have also found these part numbers as well

I have also found this gm part number

gm part # 3969870 --- LS-7 Oil Pump and Screen
note: this pump is 67.99 + shipping

"This heavy-duty oil pump has 1.30" long gears. The distance from the pump mounting surface to the bottom of the screen is 4.94". The pickup tube is tack welded to the pump body and will fit all Mark IV engines."
"Technical Notes: Use with Corvette oil pan P/N 14091356. This pump is installed in LS-7 engine assembly P/N 3965774."

I went with the TSP one. It's been an aweosme peice. 55 psi at idle, 80 at WOT. I havent seen how TSP ported the LS6, but I did some quick porting on my LS1 oil pump and it was easy. I just removed some of the casting slag.

LS7 is 454 cid BBC - will not work with LS1 cars - also..the PN you listed for the "LS6" - make sure that is the NEW 01-04 engine....not the 1970 LS6 454

thanks for all they feedback everyone.

I went ahead and went with the TSP pump due to the fact that i needed it by friday (it would probably be over 2 weeks since it was a special order item through gmpartsdirect) and at least i wont have to buy one later when i really mod out the engine (or buy a new engine to mod), but that is all a long time from now.

Also, I went to the local gm delearship and it was only like $20 less than TSP's and they charge like $11 for the o-ring.
