Default Cooling problem

Ok here is the thing my heater core went bad in my89 2.8 camaro. well being that i live in florida i didnt feel like fixing it so i decided to bypass it. there is a heater valve with a in and an out well i looped them togeather to find out that there is another hose connected to the in. well i took off the htr valve and ran the coolant line directly through from thermostat back into the block. Well i went around the corner and hit 220 on my temp guages im going to go over everything when it cools down! But i am open to suggestions or ideas of wht is wrong with it. Because i know that 220 is definatly to hot for my little 2.8! Please help i dont want to over heat my car and blow a gasket or worse please help!!
