Default Opinions on Butler Performance Cams

These are a couple of custom spec cams offered from Butler Performance that they sell from comp cams. To be ran on a 408 with cathedral port AFR 230 head FAST 102 and 3600 stall 3.73 geared. Just curious what peoples opinions on these two cams are. The stage 3 looks to be pretty radical and I'm sure tuning on it would be a pain.

This is the Stage 2 N/A cam from COMP: INT 227 .614 / EXT 234 .614 LSA 113+2

This is the Stage 3 N/A Nitrous Cam from COMP: INT 255 .624 / EXT 267 .632 LSA 115+3

Personally I don't like neither cam. First cam too small and the other cam is too big. I would personally do a 240 or so intake duration cam.

I would say 239-242 intake duration with like 6-8 degrees more on exhaust with 3.73s and 3600 stall.

Yeah I'd agree especially on that second cam. That second one looks to be a monster all out race setup type. It does say it's best for a 400-500 shot car.

I'd like to get your opinion of my Crap setup, it's just begging to be over-cammed lol

That stage 3 cam is about the size of the cam I just put in my 440. Imo too much for a 408.

Check out cam motion torquey stroker for an option between the two that should do nicely if you are open to more options

I think both Butler cams are the wrong choice for the 408 in question. Give or take a few degrees, I'd look at what Darth suggested.

Probably in the ~ 236/~242 duration range.

On the stage 3 they offer they say 408 - 427 range but yeah I bet it's like you said a much better match for something as big as your setup. Tuning would be a nightmare on anything smaller than a 427. Mainly curious because I know Butler are big players in the Pontiac market and do "Big Chief" and a few others motors but are playing in the LS market.

I ruined a piston ring on my current 408 and was playing with various ranges on where to go with it now. Mainly either step up or stay with my 408. Had a guy want to sell me a ERL 440 LS2 short block that he spun a bearing in. Sent me the pics of the motor after the machine shop but one of the mains where he spun a bearing still had some serious gouges and wanted to take it back to the machine. I thought about just putting my top end on the ERL 440 (AFR 230 62cc FAST 102 NW102).
