Re: Are cometic head gaskets junk??? The Cometic's work great on the 241 & 243 castings. Like Fastest 35th said - spray them with Permatex "high tack" (available at Auto Zone) and use the Bar's Stop Leak coolant tabs in the radiator(all 6) and stud the heads. Of course both gasket mating surfaces have to be even and clean. Guess what? No leaks and you can use again and again <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />
I concur if you just stick them on they will leak most of the time - especially when using head studs. Ask yourself why all Lingenfelter will use are Cometics on a $50,000 427 twin turbo buildup or any other motor buildup he does in house. It really is great using them over and over again but take special care to follow the above instructions - and report back to let us know they worked out <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Re: Are cometic head gaskets junk??? Yes they are the same stuff GM uses. Crush all 6 up and put them in the radiator before you fire the car up and the head install. I use 100% distilled water with Redline Water Wetter in mine <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
