AH, ok. I didn't know BTR uses roller bearings in his kit instead of bushings as most other trunion upgrade kits use. There are some who think it is better to replace the bearings with bushings. The logic behind it is there is more surface area using a bushing as compared to roller bearings 1. (so theoretically wear is carried on a larger area.) 2.(the roller bearings don't actually roll far enough so wear is induced in a small area of the trunion.)
as I see it either will work and give good service as long as the bearing setup is not used with extremely heavy valve springs. As we all know there a plenty of factory rockers with over 300,000 miles!

I think roller or needle bearings work well, just that the stock ones aren't caged to contain them when things get too loose. That is the major downfall of the stock setup in my humble opinion.

I agree rollers work well. I did notice the trunions on my Silverado 5.3l were a little worn where the greatest force is applied from the rollers. The engine had about 205,000 miles if I remember correctly. No trouble from them...so

The rollers work well if they have a race, the comp cams ones that came out first had rollers that rolled directly on the trunion and and would wear the trunion. Seems that the roller bearing sets are now going to rollers with a race that's hard enough to resist wearing and should work well like the OE setup, but not spill their guts

You nailed it Pooter. It really IS about proper metallurgy.
