6.0 wet sleeve?
Broke a piston on my lq4 6.0 with ls3 top. Couple guys said they can sleeve it. I’d like to have it sleeved and bored. Shop said they’d just sleeve the one bad guy and bore the rest 0.30 over. I want to build a 370 then option to stroke it later. Here’s a few pics

that’s who I called although he’s in SoCal I’m in NorCal I was thinking of bringing my 4th gen 5.3 to him to have sleeved since they say those are the best ls blocks to sleeve he’s the one that said 6.0 is wet sleeve. Idk if that was only his shop that does that or if it’s not doable at all?

I would have assumed a 6.0 could be dry sleeved, since I had my LS7 block dry sleeved at RED. If I am mistaken, I would get a cheap 5.3 from a JY, disassemble, and take to Steve. Or see if Darton has any already sleeved and in stock. Sometimes they do. All of Darton's blocks are done by Steve iirc

Just get another block oh my gosh, I had one that was scratched really bad I paid 300 bucks to have it punched 65 over That's the most money I would spend on machining an LS block ever but others have different opinions obviously but you're spending a lot of money to not make any more power than you could with another stock engine

[QUOTE=Mickyinks;20296177]I put wet sleeves in my ls2 block, absolute failure, kept blowing head gaskets. the block was twisting... dont go there[/
wonder is that’s from aluminum vs iron block and your bore size maybe you’re block isnt that strong? This is just getting one dry sleeve on bad cylinder now and then other cylinders just bored to match. No wet sleeves

Yes u can wet sleeve a 6.0 but Y?
Cost is 3k and the front of the block near the cam tunnel will need filling. Dry sleeve is also a waste unless it's for just maybe 1 sleeve.
Don't ask how I know.....
All information is from Steve @ RED I got YRS ago.
Posted here also.... Old? Same answer🤫

Typical don't or won't read a entire thread unless it's about cylinder heads or more than the typical HP numbered NA build 😉 Sorry😔
To answer your question with options.
Cause you don't get a hole near the timing chain cover > Wet sleeve. And for the same cost u can get a Aftermarket block that's better than a wet sleeve 6.0. Or you could get a Junkyard 6.0 Block for 200 bucks vs replacing/ fixing 1 cylinder . And if you got a 5.3 $2200 isn't bad for a Big Bore aluminum block VS a RHS,Dart,Billet etc aluminum block.
To my Buddy any thought given I've already asked. Factory iron block NA special force team🤫

🤔 Sold a 5.3 block, idea was a (big bore) with the thought of a NA number. Figured out a 6.0 would do it just as easy Cheaper.

^^ thank you. I’m just looking for input. I can’t find 6.0 in a jy around me in California for that cheap. 5.3 are even 250 maybe more now idk I usually buy them from people that are getting rid of them. But my guy wouldn’t tell me he could do it if it wasn’t worth it. He said he has a ls3 he’d sell me for 2k. I’ll have a built 370 for less than that and probably make more power and same top end so I need myself having it sleeved with the future of being able to stroke it to 408. I don’t want I buy a block run it stock and then have to do this over again 1/2 years down the toad or the block is ****. And jy motors you ever know how they were and why they’re in the jy in the first place. I’ll eventually get the gen 4 5.3 big bored by Steve at red but right now moneys going to my 6.2 and this chipped 6.0. Even if I don’t run it I can sell it to find my Stroker build as well

I can find a block. I also have 2 Lq blocks waiting for ONE to be built... Hint got screwed on my shortblock being built. I'd sell you 1 of mines but both are needed as I need to have both sonic tested. Reason is I Still got flat tops for the 408 but moved up on compression and bore size.... I'd hate to sell u mines then find out that the cylinders won't go above .030. I'd be back to a flat top 408.
Don't go to the junkyard looking for a block. Go to a place like in Houston where I know a guy who buys long blocks and breaks them down and sells cranks, heads, and blocks. 1st purchased 6.0 block was $300. 2nd was a Entire 2500 truck for 350 bucks (wrecked at my old job that just sat in the back) had my guy E remove the engine/trans with harness. Sold the truck to the scrap yard for $200.
Funny thing was my guy E then needed the pulled engine for his 2500😂. Sold it to him for $400 and he pulled and gave me his Rod knocking 6.0. Tried to sell the Guys who buy Blocks and parts the crank, rods and heads....Journals were so trashed my Buddy there said look over there 👀 🗑️ put it All in there. I did....
Ole 2 blocks Corona here 😂🤣😜😉
Got Ls3 and Ls7 heads for either way I go with the Lq it Will be more than a .030 bore 😲
