I've been looking to replace 317 heads on my LQ9 with either aftermarket or 243/799 heads that are ported. I've ran into Wilkes Performance on facebook.

Does anybody have any experience with Wilkes Performance ported 243/799 heads? They seem like they know what they are doing, but I can't find any info on them.

I had the same question a while back and didn't get much on it either. I think he used to work for Patriot as well and started his own thing. His prices are a lot lower than the competition based on the included cores and flow numbers. I don't really like the 228cc intake runner though. I ended up going with a used set of A.I. heads instead for the same price.

 

Post up on this guys youtube and ask him about his experiences with them

 

His prices are great compared to most, just can't find much info. I'm debating between Wilkes heads and PRC LS6.

I wouldn't worry about those 228cc ports. My 225cc ported TSP 243 work fine.

 

We have plenty of folks in LS facebook groups than can give you customer feedback.

 

SCAMMER! Guy takes your money them wont respond for weeks,generated a fake shipping label,wont refund money.

 

Wilkes has been around the LS cylinder head scene for ~20 years. Occasionally, he maybe slow, might be ten weeks late etc. I think Terry will deliver. Most of his Google feedback is excellent.

 

Not sure what to think. User has an account that is five years old. Has made two posts in five years. Both bashing Wilkes.

Wilkes is not a sponsor, but this is kind of an unusual posting pattern.

Take negative posts in general with a grain of salt.

I don't have any personal experience with him but I do live close by and he has a great reputation around here. I will seriously consider him on the next engine build I do.

I ordered from him based on research I did on these forums...my mistake.You guys would stick up for Hitler if someone called him out here.Send him a couple grand and get back to me in 2 months.Now he says the shipping label was "damaged" and UPS is to blame...wtf ever my bank is getting my money back.Go read his google reviews(something I should have done) if your too stupid to figure it out.

My my jumping into all sorts of emotional assumptions, wild statements & name calling without having the facts. That undermines your credibility. It's clear you've had a frustrating experience. Unfortunately that's also part of the game sometimes, especially after two years of pandemic mess when trying to get parts. If that's how you approached talking to Terry, I wouldn't blame him or anyone else for not calling you back. Being civil goes a long way most of the time.

It's unfortunate you had a bad experience. I'm glad the bank made you whole and refunded the money 💰.

The heads that get the love of the forum seem to be to be : Texas Speed, TEA, Mamo, Trick Flow, AFR, Mast, FED, heads by Darin Morgan, Greg Good etc and a few others.

When folks ask for head suggestions, I'm quick to suggest Total Engine Airflow have used a couple of sets of TEA heads for 20+ years. Likewise, I frequently suggest Darin Morgan & Tony Mamo based on my direct experience with them.

BTW - I read the Google reviews on Wilkes before posting yesterday. I also remember talking to Terry Wilkes back in 2003 about setting up a flow test shoot out with what were then regarded as the top players at an independent NASCAR shop with a known accurate flow bench. Terry was game but a lot of other big names sure weren't so it never happened. Terry was always upfront & honest in all my interactions with him. I hate to see honest hard working people thrown under the bus.
