Default LQ9 refresh - what do you think

Hey Folks,
I'm tearing town a LQ9 out of a running, 160k '05 Cadillac Escalade. The plan was to do all gaskets and seals, refresh the heads, new lifters, oil pump, water pump, lifters, timing set. I got it running on an engine stand and it sounded great, which was a relief since I only had video of it running prior to purchase, and wasn't able to see it in person. Here it is running on Terminator X controller. As you can hear, no knock or other concerning noises:

However, now that I'm down to the block and rotating assembly, I found something concerning that I don't understand. There appears to be burnt or caked oil on the connecting rods, only on the odd bank. Here's pics a good one from the even side (2):

And the worst from the odd side (5). Most appear very similar:

Is this a known cause issue? Common? Other thoughts???

Thanks in advance!

If the engine spun the other way, it would be on the other side instead.

I don't have a good answer for your question, but I'd encourage you to post more updates as this project goes along - I'm going to tackle the same thing soon, so lessons learned are invaluable!
