Forged Engine FINAL Back In The WS6 Specs, Photos, Videos
Hey Everyone, It's been a while but I'm Bak.
My 2002 Trans Am WS6 had to sit for a bit after a lifter roller failer took out my Fully Forged motor... To be fair it had been slowly going but it was the lifter's fault never using LS7 lifters again...
The car has 42000 miles and have owned it since new, if you don't already know me.
From the old days:
Background on the car:
Drivetrain: Monster Stage 3 clutch, TICK Master with new slave and REMOTE bleeder, Rockland Standard Gear Built Viper spec T56, PST 3.5" aluminum driveshaft with 1350 u-joints, Midwest Chassis Modular 9 inch
ford rear end with WAVETRAC Posi with, 35 spline axles set up for 4 channel abs, back brace, powder-coated black.
Suspension: Hal type R shock all around, 325# front springs and stock rear springs. All Midwest Chassis Chromoly Rear Suspension includes double adjustable LCAs with rod ends, single adjustable Panhard bar with
poly on body and rod-end on the rear, Long Torque Arm with fabricated trans-cross-member. Spohn tubular subframe connectors
Exhaust: 1 7/8 stainless American Racing Headers and their ORY. Had them weld in dual oval stainless electric cutouts made by DMH. From the y-pipe back is a stainless Magnaflow Catback exhaust with a stainless magnaflow bullet in the I-pipe as well as a flowmaster cat.
The Engine as I said was already modded and forged but I had to make a few changes. It is now:
LS1 Block at 348CI with Mahle 3.910 pistons with 4.1cc valve reliefs, Lunati Pro Billet 6.125 rods, Stock nitrated crank. Was 3.905 diamond pistons before. These turned out to weigh exactly the same. lucky for me.
TFS 220 Fast As Cast Heads milled too 61CC, these were on there but had them cleaned up. Valve job and such. 650 lift springs with Ti retainers. These bring me to 10.5:1.
Coming from a Futral F13 cam 230/232 .595/.585 on a 112, I went back to Futral to spec me something better suited to my heads as I was cam only before the heads. This is the grind Allen came up for me: 234/240 .620/.612 112+4
The LS7 Lifters are gone and now have a set of Johnson 2110 slow leakdown lifters preloaded to around 40 thousandths. Paired these with the Texas Speed steel roller lifters.
Added a Melling 10295 high-pressure standard volume oil pump.
ASP pulley with overdrive alt pulley, LSX 90mm intake, Nick Williams 92mm TB, 85mm z06 maf, smooth bellow, 85mm fast toys lid and K&N filter.
Hot wire kit feeding power from the battery straight to the pump, and
30# Ford SVO injectors.
Nitrous: Custom direct port nitrous system setup for a 200 shot.
I do all my own work, well except for the engine rebuild this time. I was working way too much to try it this time but I have an awesome local spot that did it for me. I picked up all the parts but they did a great job of putting it together. Lab Engine Specialists on long island
Lucky for me I have a buddy with a shop, I do some work there for them from time to time so I had lift access for the week. Got it all back in there on my own pretty much. Beats the hell out of doing it on the ground like when I was young lol.
It is all back in and Running awesome! The valvetrain is super quiet and feels like it is running almost perfectly. I have HP tuners and I have done some tweaking on the days that it's been nice out. Be Great to get it on a dyno in the spring.
Have 200 miles on it now and I'm gonna change to oil again next week.I used Rotella straight 30 weight for break-in. It's on its second Oil Chane now. This time I'm using VR1 10w30 racing conventional for a longer interval of about 500-1000. see how long it takes me to get there. I will be swapping to synthetic after that.
I Will post better videos with my good camera equipment at a later date
I love this car and look forward to using it some next year but it may have to go soon... Kid on the way, you know how it is. Figured I share this all here for all to see. Any questions let me know for sure. I have been doing this stuff for a long time lol.
