Default 243 Heads - over ported?

I recently picked up a set of “ported” 243 heads. It looks like the prior owner was more worried about hogging out the ports rather than actually cleaning them up. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the exhaust gasket actually hangs over the ports. Would this negatively affect performance? I got them for pretty cheap, so if I’m better off getting another set I’m OK with that, but I would much rather save the cash. The heads have at least one bent valve, so I was planning to disassemble and install stainless steel valves. Now I’m wondering if it’s worth messing with them. TIA.

Yikes. I'm not an expert, by any means, but that looks like crap. Bolt some chains to them and BAM! New boat anchor.

Lol it doesn't look pretty, but I went large on the exhaust of my 243 heads. You're good as long as your exhaust manifolds/headers can cover the ports.

From what I can tell, he didnt address the low flow area and tapered it open towards the exhaust manifold. Pretty much the opposite of what you want.

Yeah, I found some stock castings for pretty cheap. Think I’ll start over...

The quality of course is poor, but there is more. If this is a street car, the bottom of the D should be cleaned up but not ovaled. Without most of the floor, the motor will revert and not clear up until 4000 RPMs or higher. The ceiling is also uneven. Use these heads for practice.

Yeah those are pretty much scrap metal now.

Looks like they hardly touched the bowls or the guides, where the actual pay dirt is. Somebody wanted the eye candy of the big ports but didn't understand how heads work.
