Default Thoughts on this LQ9 boat anchor.

I picked this LQ9 up, has some rust on the cylinders walls, and a broken piston. I'm not sure if a garage hone will clean the walls up, what are your thoughts.

Thanks.

I'm just hoping it cleans up, if not, I'm thinking of having to bored 0.06" for an iron 6.2.

thanks.

Yep, and it should work well with my truck rectangle heads, and ls3 intake.

Thanks.

For my LQ9 (standard 4" bore) I used the Brush Research 240 grit GBD40024, bought it from Summit Racing IIRC around $50. Worked well putting in a nice cross hatch and the rings sealed instantly... still running strong with no oil consumption. Used it once then sold it here in the classifieds to get most of the money back.

Well, if this thing cleans up, I'm not sure what to do then, maybe put some cheap 862 heads on it?

Thanks.

240 grit Is correct.

I have used 320 if I am reusing the old rings.

1FastBrick and me had this discussion last week over at the Truck Forum...

Flex hone has there own brand of oil for this application. Come to find out it just a standard 10-30W motor oil...
Flex-Hone® Instructions
Here is a pic of the hone I used (part number posted above)

I'd use a conventional oil and not a synthetic. Synthetic might be too slippery.

Most recently I have used the standard Flex Hone oil but later found out it was just conventional 10-30W

Thanks guys, never would of thought of that, I've heard of people using WD-40 or ATF. It will be a while till it get to this project, but atleast it's in process.

Thanks again!

Stampede.

ATF might actually be better, with its high detergency to keep bits suspended rather than embed in the wall

WD40 or motor oil works and I use the ATF for cleaning out the cylinder walls after honing.
