Im sure I’d make a good bit more power with 1 7/8 headers and a 3” exhaust. I like the sound though so exhaust is further down my list. I’d like to get better heads and possibly 6 bolt so I can use them long term. Of course I’ve got to keep some cash on hand since I’m still running a stock crank and a built 4l60e lol. I’ve got a few things pushed to their limits right now.

Stock 241? I've been thinking a lot of these 377 combos (if they have the right pistons) would benefit from just going back to the stock 317 castings? I have a funny little 376 combo with stock 706 heads on it, I had 853 before, that I play with that I think may actually ET better if I put the 317s back on it but it's in a completely stock chassis that car still has a stock converter and 2.73 gears it's a highway hauler, yours being a blower combo would certainly like the better flowing exhaust port and 317 heads are basically free these days I would try it it would hurt to mill them either

I just wonder if you'd make the same or more power at less boost.

I had a cam only ls1 with this blower to about 600 rwhp. At that point I decided to sell the healthy short block and bought an LS3 short block with forged rods and pistons. I swapped my ls1 top end over with a custom cam. I’m just now putting a BTR intake on it in ok ace of the LS6 intake. That is what got me thinking about more RPM.

Already had the 241’s with good fresh springs so I reused them. I’m a believer in compression even with blowers. I’m about 10.6 to 1 now and don’t want to go lower. If I swap heads it will likely be an aftermarket casting.

I should be well over 800 rwhp now.

I have no doubt that it would. Quality stainless headers and exhaust are pricey though. I could sell my head unit and put that money together to buy a bigger blower too lol. So many tough decisions lol

I went from 317's to 862's (same chamber as 706) and picked up a few MPH with no other changes. You would have to mill 317's ~.050 to get them close to the same compression.

You're basically telling me I need to try a much larger camshaft in my engine although my heads are completely stock with the stock little intake valve even on a flat top 4.0662" bore, it's got LS6 springs summit 8714 camshaft and BTR push rods same as my other setup I've revved it clean to 7, 000 on 5w40 though it makes peak power at 5,400 RPM with the LS6 intake crappy headers and said camshaft it's naturally aspirated though not boosted like y'alls

Being boosted certainly changes things. I did tune a truck with an lq4 in it recently. Mild stage one truck cam naturally aspirated combo with 706 heads on it. Only street tuned seat of the pants, but we both felt like it picked up a lot of torque and throttle response over the 317’s.

Didnt say anything about a cam or what type of oil you run. Just stating a 9.9cc smaller chamber makes more power than a .11 larger intake valve. The forum mascot already tested 706 vs 317 heads if you dont want to take my word for it.

Goes against going as fast as possible on stock stuff. And totally against the whole build. No point in putting 2k in valve train on a 500 dollar motor that gets boosted to the moon for a few seconds and then shut off. And like you were basically insinuating, the small percentage in power gain isn't worth it.

Also, they're fine with getting 10 or so miles out of it, probably be fine with less (10 miles is 40 1/4 mile passes)

If you don't have a good exhaust man you need to do that first. You should gain a ton of power with better flowing exhaust if you have a backed up exhaust.

See if speed engineering makes headers for it. They fit great and they're cheap. Had mine for almost 3 years. Zero issues.

I was just giving details about my engine, I believe the smaller port and intake valve is important for power below certain RPM range but we are talking about pulling to 7500 here on 4.00" or larger bores with cathedral heads, my 376 cubic inch 706 n/a combo dies at 5400 like I said due to the small intake valve and the small ports not the small chamber but it also has a smaller cam than most of you guys. I have another engine combo that I also mentioned in the thread already it's a cam only LQ9 317 heads and bigger cam 233/243 114 vs 226/230 112 thats in that homemade 6.2L with 706 and it certainly does not die at 5400, That's due to the larger port and larger intake valve not the compression I realize that,

I agree cheap is fun. Always gotten more then 10 miles out of them, pegged the MAP for 18 months at 35+ lbs, just kept ticking seemed like a solid run for $500. I believe the SBE stang that ran 7's got some 200 passes out of his as well.

Does Speed Engineering making a 1 7/8 for the Goat? I'm used to Fbody stuff where 1 7/8 stainless LT's are like $300 lol.

I'm running 1 3/4 headers with a 2.5" magnaflow catback and the stock 241 heads so there is still some power to be made with this blower before going bigger. Impressive little blower.

The only way I've got the D1, D1X, F1 or any other procharger to make good power is spinning it well over (10k+) its "rated" speed.

~11'ish years ago when I had a blower, I had Doug Thorley tri-y headers 1 3/4" runners to a stock style 2.5" collector to a dual 2.5" homemade exhaust on the car. I was like man this crappy exhaust setup has to be costing power, so I spent a bunch to get shiny new Kooks with 3" collectors and a catless dual 3" exhaust, looked good, sounded good but gained less than 15whp on the dyno.

An easy test is drop the exhaust and make back to back pulls on open headers full exhaust. It's not just a header issue. A 2.5" exhaust on a 900hp LS seems awfully tight.

I don't think he's near 900whp yet, but I've seen 900+whp through a 2.5" Corsa exhaust. Look at the CTSV guys making 750+whp and running 9's with a completely stock exhaust, doesn't seem to be a huge restriction. They argue all day if headers are even worth it, they just turn up the boost or spray it. If its that big of a concern get a boost actuated cutout for way less than a full exhaust.

I missed it. What is the current exhaust setup on the car?
