Default Rebuild top end

1998 z28 93k miles
I’ll keep it short and to the point. I have bad lifters, I’m going to drop the motor slightly to make it easier to remove heads but can you guys pls help me create a part lift of everything I should replace while I have the heads off? I’ve only done knock sensors and radiator. I’m thinking oil and water pump, theromstat, head gaskets, intake gaskets, timing chain, belt, Valve cover gasket, air filter, and I already have spark plugs n wires. I’d really appreciate other info, also do y’all think I need a new cam? My lifters started to make a ticking noise I have a video on one of my posts, I only drove it an hour at most with the ticking noise. Thanks in advance I really want to get my z28 running it’s been months.

I would do the CHE trunnion bushing kit.
How many miles on the cam? I would at least inspect it so it can be blamed/eliminated for the lifter issue.
If you do swap the cam put in a new cam retainer plate. They DO wear.

I am doing a similar job (replacing noisy lifters) in my car with 160k miles on it. My plan was only lifters and valve springs, pushrods, and valve seals. I have a set of 799 heads that I am planning to swap on in place of my stock 241 heads just because they should need the same amount of refreshening work. I plan to not open the front of the engine since I haven't seen any concerning signs during oil changes. FWIW my lifters have been ticking since before I got the car 8 years ago. I think your cam should be fine unless you are seeing metal flakes in your oil. But if you feel the need, now would be a good time for a cam upgrade provided you do the proper supporting mods as well.

Bru I would cam it but I’m in ca and smog is a bitch. Since mine is relatively low miles I wanna keep it stock. I have a 96 Firebird shell and a 5.3 with 243 heads so imma jus save the cam swap for that thing.

There are a few options for a cam swap that will still pass smog. You could do an LS6 cam and pick up a fair chunk of power while still being smog legal. But you won't get the same result as a bigger cam of course. I get not wanting to though because of that.

There is a variety of truck cams that duration-wise are close to stock, but have more lift and narrower duration, yet idle like a stocker. It CAN be done.
