Default Want to see some carnage?

Factory block out of my 02 Z28. F13 cam, Absolute Speed 5.3 heads, ported LS6 oil pump, all other bolt ons done. I put this motor together in 2005 and it had 16k HARD miles. My son (he wasn't even born when I put the motor together) are having a lot of fun pulling this apart. A built LS2 is going in. This engine is going to become a coffee table. One head off, the other one on (with the valve cover off) along with the header.

There are holes in both sides of the block, the oil pan has many chunks missing and cracks. 4 rods are in tact and 5 pistons are in tact. Crank has missing chunks, cam is scored.

This happened at the track. Hey, it happens. Lol!

Wow! Great attitude! Did you find the cause? 16k hard miles will eventually expose the weak spot. Sounds like you were waiting for an excuse to build an LS2! Lol.

I happened at the track, first thing I checked after pulling the pan was the oil pickup and the gasket on the pump. Pickup was full of metal but the gasket was 100% fine. I'm guessing the ported LS6 pump just had a bad day.

And my wife is making me put a new engine in it.

Just another example of a GEN III powder metal rod snapping. Same thing happened to the No. 6 on my LS1 leaving the block to nothing more than a table stand.

It totally happens for sure. BUT this quote right here is definitely the best part of all! That kind of lady is hard to find these days! Following for your future build.

It just ticked for about a half second then let go. I had the cutout open and couldn't hear much.

My wife is named after a racecar driver and grew up at the track when her dad owned a car. I have a relative that was a Formula 1 champion. My son races road courses and dirt in go karts. My daughter isn't really into racing, but does like the boys. Lol! This car has just always been a toy for me. Track days, street car etc. This engine let go at the Milwaukee Mile.

Thankfully no one was hurt, I'm sure others at the track had little sympathy and just wanted it cleaned up so they could get there runs in That's a shame and I've been there and that's a pretty nasty let-go. So what does the rest of your drive train look like? I'd check out your transmission and rear end as you get it back together. I had a differential pop last year whilst I was doing a burnout at the drag strip at the king of the track race and it caused some internal damage to the front planetary in my transmission which I did not discover until later when I had to put a new engine in The car because the old engine got hydrolocked while the car was sitting because the rear end was broken and the season was over and I was too lazy to move it inside before a giant rainstorm ugh and then I tried to drive it around once I got the new engine in and then I found the trans had broke when The whole thing had only started out as a broken differential so keep your head up you've got a long road ahead to get that thing back together lol

I would like to see the journal that the broken rod end came off of. Broken rod end is laying on the bottom, broke in half. Looks like a bearing was turning in it, from the pic.

When No. 6 let go the big end and the bearing was still good and the damage looked similar. Sent the crank off to LME to get indexed and balanced so its now in the 370 with forged rods and pistons. Wish I could have done a forged crank but there's always next time.

How high were you spinning this went she let go?

I would like to see more pictures of the failed parts. I have seen the rod beams break before but never the big end of the rod come apart. I would also like to see where the crank broke.

He might not want to disassemble it; rather set up his coffee table with whichever parts are still hanging on....

RPM's were definitely up when it let go and there's more carnage then what were seeing in the picture. The piece of connecting rod in the bottom of the picture clearly indicates a bearing issue.

I was downshifting going into a corner, I heard the ticking around 4k then it just went. I made it around the corner and pulled off of the track and got towed back. My dad caught it on video and you can hear a loud pop from the exhaust.

I had my helmet on so I really didn't hear much myself. Just felt it, took it out of gear and coasted to a stop.

Yes, I'm not sure how far I want to or am able to take it apart. Just clean it up and make a table.

I'll take some more pics when I get around to it.

LS2, Texas Speed Stage 3 cam, ported LS3 heads, Peak Performance LS3 ported intake, Nick Williams throttle body, Monster stage 3 clutch and lightweight flywheel and a Holley Terminator X. Also swapping the Strange rear end out for a Trick 9" so I can swap gears at home.

The car already has a BMR K member, adjustable torque arm, adjustable panhard rod, lower control arms, subframe connectors and a 6pt cage. Lowered with BMR springs and has Bilstein HD revalves, ATI slotted rotors and Hawk pads. Corsa Sport catback and a cutout.

Update:

It's been almost a year now, but the new engine is almost ready to be fired and start the tuning. I changed direction and went with a VS 78mm turbo. The T-56 is rebuilt, new 9" with 4:10s is in, waiting on the driveshaft and the wiring to get done. Also a new radiator to get the intercooler to fit and some new tires. Should make around 900 with the boost.

The old engine is still in the garage but I called a glass company about a table top. I need to make that happen soon.
