Default Swap my timing chain/sprags?

*sprockets

Hey there everyone! Thank you for reading!

2000 C5 Corvette M6 120k miles

I am doing a balancer replacement and wanted some opinions on whether I should swap my timing set when I replace the oil pump. I know the LS2 timing chain is a common replacement, but I would rather replace the entire set with something that exceeds the quality of the factory parts. I called Cloyes and they suggested the TX3 as an upgrade, they did however say it wasn't terribly necessary, that the chain was the main thing, but as I understand it from what they told me the TX3 set will offer more timing accuracy over factory.

Any opinions are highly appreciated!

If the chain has the right amount of slack when cold, timing accuracy will take care of itself. Just get a new LS2 chain and you'll be good to go.

What do you mean by "right amount of slack"?

Would there be no benefit to swapping the set?

The engine, especially aluminum ones, "grows" a bit as it warms up due to expansion of block and heads.
There is a bit of slack in the chain when cold for this reason, but that tightens up as the engine warms up. The factory LS2 chain meets this spec.
Replacing the chain is of benefit ONLY if yours is worn. The sprockets rarely wear enough to make any real difference. The chain gets the most wear.
The Cloyes set is good, but not really much, if any, better than stock.
