Default Engine break in oil

What oil do you use to break in a ls engine that clearances are set up for synthetic oil?

What weight does the rebuilder recommend, ID use that in a Napa conventional and just dump it after a good short work out. Then put in what your going to stay with, and dump that after 1k miles, then just treat it as normal intervals from there on out... But that's just my .02¢worth bud.

Heck im the over kill type though, and also run one ove these on the outside ove filter for most everything im gunna keep for a while.

Don't laugh, the engine was built 10 years ago. Never been fired up. It's been in my house sitting in a bag. I don't remember what oil. I just know he said regular oil then synthetic.

I use that filter mag as well!! Saved my engine from further issues! Apparently they don’t make that mag anymore. 🙄

I just googled it. Summit carries them, but it looks like now they are a flex-type that adapts to different diameter filters. So there is still hope....

Does 10w30 quiet a noisy engine better than 5w30? My 02 is a little noisy, but I understand it is kind of normal for the LS1 to do this. Im guessing valve train noise but not like a classic lifter ticking sound, kind of a dull sound.

I would worry more about what is making the sound before worrying about how to quiet it...
The most common sound associated with LS engines is a "sewing machine" type of light ticking.
Any dull sound should be looked into. Figure that out first before trying to quiet it....

Actually you described it better. "sewing machine sound" is it.
