Default putting together a truck motor

im putting together a truck motor for my 01 suburban z71. the motor in it now is original and has 469.000 and change on it. so i bought another one from the yard with 189.000 and some change. it came out of an 02 tahoe. i took the motor apart today and the rod and main bearings are perfect, the rings and the pistons are in good shape, ill be putting new cam bearings in it though . theres a shocker.i have new rings ,new rod and main bearings, complete gasket set, and for torque and pulling my boat i bought the brian tully truck norris cam complete set with the correct push rods and ls7 lifters. this is not a race motor this is a bit of an upgrade over stock. i will be putting a 2600 to 2800 stall converter in the trans which is in great shape but im having a problem finding a reasonably priced set of headers 1-7/8 if i can and will i need to do a remote tune witha spec card or just take it to the dyno. again this is not a race motor. thanks yall for your imput

Okay, because your lack of capitalization and punctuation made your post look like it was generated by a bot account... We've been getting a lot of that around here lately.

Anyway, I'd use the parts that you have; the higher stall converter won't be as good for towing. Does the transmission have 469,XXX miles on it?

I’d stay 2500 stall for towing. You might could get by with a 2600 to 2800 but you definitely want to invest in a remote trans cooler setup with fans. More stall adds heat to fluid from slippage. Everything else on your list seems good. Try Texas Speed for the headers. I’ve put a couple sets of their stainless headers on trucks and they fit good.

While you have this motor out, go ahead and replace the engine sensors - knock sensors plus their wiring harness, cam and crank position sensors. They are all easy to reach now and won't be later. I went ahead and also replaced the water pump and cleaned the fuel injectors rather than let the ethanol-laced fuel damage them while sitting unused. Use genuine AC Delco parts where possible.

A very ambitious person would also take a look at the timing chain and its apparatus at this point.
