Default Xotic Balancer Bolt

Anybody used these before? I’ve used their head studs on diesel applications, but not any of their other stuff. Amazon has them for $27. Seems like a pretty good deal.

I am new here and new to this series of engines. First time immersing myself into the LS world. 🤙🏼

Why not get the ARP Balancer bolt for a few bucks more and not worry about it?

Either use the OEM torque to yield bolt or go ARP. Both are known quantities.

I agree. OP, I'm sorry, but I'm very much old school when it comes to engine parts. Personally, and I may be in the minority considering today's Hi-Tech world, but I'd NEVER buy engine parts from Amazon. I truly believe there are some remarkable knock-offs out there that are reverse engineered in China, then made in China. Good enough to fool Amazons resident purchasing agent. I'm old enough to remember that nothing but junk came from Japan (except motorcycles), coining the phrase 'cheap Japanese junk.' China is now where Japan was 60 years ago. I want to know I'm buying the real thing when it comes to critical parts.

grinder11- I agree! The only auto stuff I get from Amazon are known brand name items. And if that item comes to me in the form of a counterfeit item, it gets returned along with a stern phone call to Customer Service for a severe chewing out.

Id go ARP and be done with it. Last thing you want is that bolt you saved $10 bucks on snapping deep in the crank snout when your torquing it. Then having to extract the rest of that crap out and hoping it spins out with a reverse drill bit. I went ARP and glad I didnt have to jack with TTY bolts!

@grinder11 is right on the market. I'd buy ARP or OEM GM bolt.

No telling if critical engine parts from Amazon will be Xotic or Toxic

Likewise, I avoid Fleabay for critical engine parts

Well for what it’s worth I used the Xotic bolt but ordered straight from them for $20 instead of Amazon. It looks like a clone of the ARP. Good packaging with tamper proof seal. I think the difference is where the steal was sourced.. probably China. Honestly, I was impressed guys. Time will tell though!

You have NO way of knowing the metallurgy on that bolt. It is a total shot in the dark.

Very true. They must cut corners some how or another. How else would it be half the price of the ARP. They tout the tensile strength as 220,000 PSI and call the material XOTIC 7200 whatever that even means. It’s proprietary right so like you said there is zero way of knowing.

It must be a trademarked name for whatever kind of steel it is. There certainly is no such steel as XOTIC 7200. In all likelihood, the ARP balancer bolt is probably overkill. However, when it comes to engine parts, external and internal, I'd much prefer to have parts that are stronger than absolutely necessary. XOTIC 7200? Probably premium Chinesium......

Premium Chinesium!!! lol I’m gonna (steal) that from you. It’s sad that everything is made there now. Moral of the story.. use the ARP.
