Default Timing chain does not have dampener?

My 2005 Tahoe 4.8L only has chain and gears?

on Rockauto I see 2 versions of replacement sets. One with and one without dampner?

I see some are running an LS2 set?

Please guide me in correct direction so I can get the correct parts

Some early blocks didn't have the guide. It's really a sort of guide. It does nothing as far as tensioning is concerned. Many blocks have the threaded holes to mount the guide, but some don't. You wont know until you pull the balancer and timing cover......

Default Good point about mounting holes

There's a bracket you can buy in order to run one, if you'd like to: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/t...SABEgJDifD_BwE

If you’re going through the trouble you might as well replace the chain with an upgraded Katech chain. You’ll guarantee that you’ll never break or stretch.
