Default Oil Pan Gasket Replacement?

putting in a new cam and decided to replace the oil pump while i was at it, i cant for the life of me get the dreaded pick up tube bolt to go back in. i see people saying to unbolt the oil pan to gain about an inch of room. my question is, do you need to replace the oil pan gasket if you just unbolt the pan and let it hang?

I would give it a shot. Reuse the old pan gasket. I assume to replace the pan gasket would need to pull the engine? Make sure you add a bit of silicone at the corners that meet with the timing cover.

I twisted safety wire around the bolt head to help support it and keep it from falling in the pan. You can reuse the oil pan gasket

I can't remember exactly, but iirc, I used a socket head cap screw, aka Allen bolt to hold the pump tube on. Yeah, it can get pretty poophole puckering with that screw!!! In a C5 Vette, dropping that into the pan would make a good day bad, real quick!!
