![Question](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Is there any other way besides the number on the front of the head to tell a LS6 from and ls1 while it is on the car?
Thanks in advance.

If your talking about the head....i think that would be the easiest way. Only other diff you could see in the car would be the exhaust port if the headers/manifolds were off. But even then you would have to see the number to make sure it wasnt a 6.0L head.
If your talking about the block....you should be able to see the casting number on it and check that.

Im just wonering about the head, it is all on and headers are on, but the numbers are filed off, and i want to make sur they are ls6 heads. I know the ones on my car say 243 on them, but im looking at getting a set for sort money but they where beed blasted smooth, and fild down smooth, then painted. they are on an ls1 block, but he says they are ls6 heads but no #'s to see. there are no other ways unless i pull the head off? If so, what to look for then?

The LS6 heads had "D" shaped exhaust ports.
ZO6/LS6 Heads have Casting #243 Marked on the right side of the Head . (Passenger Side is more visible) and also they have GM Part #12564243 Stamped on the inside of the Head.

Again- notice casting number at SDPC.

So either take off the valve cover or drop a cast iron manifold? It is a fancy show car with all types of paint and ****, im afrad to take anything off, i dont want to dirty/scratch anything. Oh well, for the price i cant pass them up. i have to trade stock ls1 heads and 200 bucks! thats a 300 dollor set of ls6 heads!!!!!!! thats $1,000 profit!!!!
he never races the car, and he said he was going to sell the heads cam, ls6 intake,
because he could make money off them and he doesnt plan on driving the car so he didnt care about performance! weird yes, do i care? NO!
I'll have to get the car apart and check it out.
