thank you man. So just to be clear what bearings do I need to add .001 to the mains ? Undersize oversized I don’t understand the nomenclature. I also need to reduce my Rod bearing clearance by at least .001.

Well if the crank mics out to 2.099 on the rods and 2.558 you should be fine with Clevite P-Series standard bearings. What are your measurements for the rod and main bores? Having 0.025-0.030 clearance for an iron block build ran on 5W30 would be ideal IMO.

So I had my gen 4 rods fitted with arp bolts and they honed them to true them. I have not measured the id of my rods with a snap gauge or anything I just installed my std bearing in the rods torqued them then measure with my bore gauge zeroed to the micrometer reading from the crank and was getting .0035 on the rods is t that too much?

Have you taken measurements at different locations of the rod bore to make sure your gettting a consistent number? What bearings are you using? 0.0035 is on the loose side of things but I also don't think that's a bad thing either it just means you can run a thicker oil.

yeah I took measurements in a few places on the Rod maybe about .0002 variation at most

these are the bearings

Yes, you are correct. This is a LONG way from 2.0775"! 2.099" diameter should give only .001" clearance, which is too tight. OP-Where did the .0035" clearance # come from?

i measured the Rod journal locked my mic the. Zeroed my bore gauge to the mic and checked my clearance on the Rod. And yeah I was definitely reading the mic wrong at first.

YES. .024", NOT .0024". Each complete turn, 0-0, is .025" on an SAE mic. You are approximately .001" under 2.100", which =2.099".

You're right, Ron. Reading 1 10,000" (100 millionths!!) is extremely difficult!! I was a T&D maker for over 40 years, and did this a LOT. OP-I don't care how good you get at using a mic, when you start trying to read "tenths" on a mic, best you can hope for is plus/minus one tenth, which is pretty damn accurate, except for aerospace, which is on another planet, literally!! Caliper will get you within a couple-three thousandths, then use the mic to get an exact number.

yeah i totally get that. I’m just trying to use the right tools so i have the best chance at a quality engine at the end.

What I don't understand is where the OP got .0035" clearance if the the crank is@2.099", and he's using standard bearings........

I'm assuming you mean .0025-.0030 clearance, NOT .025-.030!!! This is where confusion enters the picture for inexperienced builders......

I’m looking to be in the .0025 clearance range.

I'm glad you're trying to do it the right way, with the right tools. Practice with that mic will make perfect with that mic...

That would be just about as good as you'll get it.

IIRC, aluminum blocks are set up about a half thou tighter (.0005) than iron blocks, due to greater thermal expansion of aluminum vs iron...

These bearings should work for your rods. They're designed for cracked cap rods that have been honed .002 over: https://www.competitionproducts.com/.../#.Y9fdL3bMLrc
