So i got myself some used gen 4 rods with brand new gen 4 pistons, ik these rods can hold there own but what about the piston at 900-1000 on a single turbo on 16lbs of boost?
putting these into my stock block & crank 5.3 ls engine & dropping it into my 4th gen firebird
Stock hypereutectic pistons, and stock rods, will take a lot of power. 99blackbird is right about tune. Though stock pistons and rods will take a lot of power, what the pistons won't take is detonation. If you have a great tune, stock pistons will live fine at the higher power levels obtained with FI. The only problem is there's no forgiveness in a marginal tune. No "insurance" that forged pistons offer. Get a really good tune, run premium fuel, and it's amazing how much power the stock bottom end and pistons will hold.......
I made 800 whp with an 80e on a turbo gen 3 5.3 pump gas and 20% meth mix. timing conservative pulling some additional peak toque. loose converter 4000 stall.
3000+ pound s10 street driven. the rods bent at 850 whp. still ran but the rods were all slightly bent. I made hundreds of passes at 800hp no problem gen 4 rods be even better1000 +
