Default Timing dampener Jig

has anybody ever made a jig to drill LS1 blocks without holes for the timing dampener ? seems like such a easy jig to make so those of us without can put LS1 chain dampeners in

I just laid one on my block (LQ9), center-punched through its holes, and drilled & tapped. Pretty straightforward.

It was one like this. Not this specific one I don't think; certainly not this seller or source. But, like it.

Amazon Amazon

If you look closely you'll note it's not symmetrical.

Which? Mine?

It's the LS2 one. Totally "compatible". All ya gotta do is, drill & tap the 2 holes. Piece o cake.

There's also one on a large plate that goes under 2 of the cam retainer plate screws, but some people report having some kind of trouble with it, not sure the details.

ICT Billet makes one.
I have one, used it for a few different blocks.

i believe the problem with the LS2 style in the LS1 is not enough meat on the front of the block to accommodate the holes as the hole location is different

This is not true. As I said, ICT billet makes a drill fixture. I’ve drilled several blocks with it. Works fine.

the reason I said that ....I found on the interwebs a pic comparing the hole locations of both dampeners....it was clear to see that the LS1 block was iffy on using the LS2 style....cant find that pic now ....do you have pics of your setup?? ?

and ICT states that the jig is specifically for ,,,,
  • ONLY compatable with Gen III LS Iron Blocks (LM7, LR4, LQ4, L59, LQ9)
so to confirm....you have used this jig to mount a LS2 style on LS1 alum block ?

Yes. I don’t have photos though.
The holes drilled end up on edge of the pads, but I didn’t see that being an issue.
The block was from a 2000 Camaro.
