sorry didn't mean to put e in it lol typo but I seen hotrod magazine put 706 heads on a 6.0 to get higher compression but maybe some head work. Cam/springs, header, hi flow oil pump, trailblazer ss intake and a tune should get me in the 400hp range you think?

You can get a drop-in cam that has lower lift that uses stock springs. You don't need a high flow oil pump. The OEM one is fine.
Keep in mind the LS2 put out almost 400 HP with a 204/211 cam with .524 lift. A tiny bit more cam will do 400 easy

Unless you're going to totally tear the engine down (I don't know why you would...), the head bolt style nor the pistons are worth worrying about. All are dependable designs.

The rod dictates the pin choice. If you want floating pins, you’ll need gen4 rods. You can put gen4 rods on a gen3 crank, no problem. Of course with floating pins, you’ll want to make sure whatever piston your using will accept a wristpin retainer clip…it must have the groove machined in it. Most pistons do have it, but you might find an odd Gen3 engine with pistons that don’t have the groove in them. Gen4 rods are a way better choice for strength, so I’d plan on finding a Gen4 engine if I were doing what your doing.

Im an hour north of Atl. I can find plenty of Gen4’s but you’d have to drive an hour or so. Well worth it to go Gen4 in my opinion.

che70velle, Where do you find these motors? I'm 30min north of Atlanta and have been looking for a good 6.0/6.2 motor that doesn't cost millions.

The gen 3 is plenty fine for your application. I know i am in the minority but i prefer the gen 3 and for me they are easier to tune.

The actual engine only matters if you need the stronger parts in the gen 4, which you don't at the power levels you are asking about. The computers are a different story. The gen 3 computers have a much wider knowledge base simply because of how many years people have been tuning them. They also have freeware tuning options to do almost anything you could want without buying HPT or EFIlive if you are on a budget. Be aware that freeware DOES mean a steeper learning curve than commercially supported software, but it is very capable.

As long as it looks like you are trying to do some legit research, as opposed to just asking for spoon-fed knowledge, the people on this forum will always be helpful. Just remember to look at post dates while you are searching topics. People are constantly asking questions in decade old threads that they stumbled across while searching.
