9" rear with some 4.10s would be fun, and cost way under $5k

Only you can decide if it's worth it. Some people spend more than that on rocker arms alone. It's about you, your finances and how serious you are about the hobby.

Aaftermarket heads and valves and a cam with complimenting parts is usually at least $4000 in parts.

I haven't priced one those things in a while. But those add up quick!
Housing, center section, axles, all the little bits and pieces to complete it.
Plus the cost of having a shop install it like he prefers.
Also your not gonna want to use the stock trans and converter
Add a built trans and quality converter, plus install.
Damn near $10k!!!
One of the reasons I switched to Vettes lol, less stuff you have to upgrade initially.

I'm currently in the process. its not bad at all. of course if you can't do the work, you are going to pay the labor...

housing and axles is about $1100 (quick performance), then a rebuilt 9" bronco posi about 500-600, and you could use stock drive shaft. so roughly 1700, but if he's paying install that would probably be 6 hours labor so roughly 600-1000 to install. Not bad, considering he is contemplating 5 grand for heads and cam. **** for 5 grand I'd buy a turbo kit. or SC.

aftermarket not oem/ported oem. But in that case yes you are right. 100hp is a lot. And 5 grand is a lot less money then the $55k plus dealers ask for new muscle cars.
