Could I just bolt in another crank without machining?
can I bolt in a short crank without machining,or could it be done without takeing out the pistons? Put in new bearings with it ? Hope I didn’t crush anything in the tranny when I bolted it up, funny it bolted in ok for haveing a extra 1/2” of crank. What a mess!
IF the new crank is in new or nearly new condition, and
IF you put in all new main and rod bearings, it should go together and run without issue.

I'm surprised it even bolted up without cracking the bellhousing. But you didn't run it, correct? You said it won't even spin over by hand. If you could determine that the transmission pump wasn't damaged, I suppose just order that custom torque converter for this application and move on. That way you don't have to mess with engine internals, especially if it's a runner.
But I would honestly remove the transmission pan, valve body and pump to inspect before anything else. Or take it to a transmission shop for inspection. Is it a known good transmission? What transmission is it anyway?
