I called Melling and of course got the response that its way to much pump... which is of course on me. Melling Tech spec'd the M295HV due to my unknown mileage clearances and told me to keep the installed 70lb spring. I asked about the M295 and he said if the clearances are looser which he suspects the HV would be a better choice. I also brought up the 10296 and he said they are basically the same pump as the M295HV but it comes with the COPO spring. I ordered the M295HV from summit and got it price matched to $109 which is $43 less than they list it and the 10296 was $191!!
If I can get 35-45psi hot and 70psi at WOT I would be happy. I will redo with the black Oring and let it eat. Should I try to reuse the oil and filter since it was only started/run one time and make sure its good and then drain it out and go with good oil and filter?
Thats crazy….on my 370 i run a actual melling high volume with no issues and its about 70 psi cold idle and around 40psi at operating temp… been running flawlessly for the past 5 years and i built it in my garage after the machine shop bored and prepped the motor…….. hopefully you get it figured out…sounds like you have pressure bleeding off somewhere!!
Got the melling M295HV installed and decided to not use the pickup girdle this go around. Reused the conventional 5w30 to verify oil pressure. Oil and inside of pan looked fine oil is slightly dirty but nothing crazy and no real anything in the pan.
pressures seem ok, kinda high but will see what it’s like on the road with hot oil. I believe I saw 90psi on a free rev 4k+ and it shoots to 70psi as soon as I touch the throttle. I will post a video and link.
