Default Oil priming

I am priming an LQ4 block with ls3 top end. Getting oil out of the sending unit hole but can’t get oil at push rods/rockers. Help. Using the weed sprayer method.

I made my own using a 4" PVC tube from Lowes. Tube was maybe 42"-48" long. Cap one end, drilled/tapped for pipe thread, and installed a shut off valve. Hose on shut off went to the oil port on drivers side at front of the block. Drilled/tapped the second cap for quick disconnect, filled tube with 6-7qts of oil, then glued last cap on. Lowered air pressure to 45lbs. Hooked up the air, and opened the valve. Several seconds later, oil out the pushrods.....

the weed sprayed worked fine. I did get oil up to the oil pressure sensor but never could get it out of the push rods/rockers.

Then it didn't work fine in my opinion. I suspect you didn't pump quite enough pressure into the sprayer, or wait quite long enough. But if motor runs fine, with good pressure, I'm sure it's good.

My machine shop let me borrow this trick little thing. Works incredibly well and you could make one for not a lot of money.

That's legit. Someone could make some bucks making and selling those for sure.

Interesting. I do have a spare junk sbc pump floating around in the garage. Would have never thought a hand crank would get enough though.

There used to be a video floating around here of a guy with an LS on an engine stand. Dude was turning the crank by hand with a ratchet or maybe a box end wrench, and getting oil out of the rockers. Not just a little oil either. I’ll try and find it. It really doesn’t take much once the filter and all the oil passages are filled.

Years ago, after I made my PCV/air over oil primer, I had an old timing chain/oil pump drive gear laying around. I decided I'd take it to work, use an I.D. grinder to open up the I.D. so it would spin on the crank. Then I made up a strap that bolted to the the gear, and drilled a hole in the center. Then I tapped the hole. Screwed a short Allen head bolt (aka SHCS) into it. Now I could chuck the bolt head in a drill motor. Greased the crank up just a bit, and that drill motor primed the engine within 5-10 seconds!! Summit now sells the same thing I made up %##÷=/<$$-@% Oh well, shoulda patented it.......

I made a priming tool out of an old freon tank...you can put plenty of pressure in this thing...you'll get oil wherever you want it. Pretty reasonably priced to make also.

My engine was a take out but i preoiled it just to be safe. I used the method I use on aircraft recip engines. Unplugged fuel injectors and coils, removed sparkplugs so it wouldnt make compression then turned the engine over using the starter. Bill
