Default Getting a click when hand turning the engine

Rebuilding an lq4. Replaced the lifters and pushrods and heads have stock valves but I put in new seals and springs to go with the btr cam. Heads torqued down and rockers torqued with each rocker off the lift to 22ft lbs. rotating the engine by hand I get a click or pop noise from the drivers bank. Spins freely enough through the whole cycle. But the popping click is annoying me. Isolating the noise by pulling rocker arms and push rods it’s coming from the number 3 exhaust side and clicks just before or as the push rod starts to come up. If I turn it super slow the push rod will come up and the valve will open and then I hear the click. Is there something in the lifter that sticks? Gotta be the lifter. Does it just need to be run? Any ideas?

Have you tried a different rocker?

I ended up ordering another set of lifters and will try just replacing it and checking before I torque the head back down and wasting another set of bolts.

Depending on how fast you're turning it over, that could be just a lifter that has no oil in it. What lift is the cam? Could be a retainer that's hitting a seal. If it was me, I would've swapped the lifters around and checked whether or not the noise moved to a different cylinder/rocker, before buying another set of lifters. But that's just me....

That’s what I did and the noise moved. I had left them soaked in oil. It is possible it was low but I didn’t trust the Amazon’s ls7 lifter and opted to just go with proper ones.
