In the gazillions of LS engines on the streets, the plastic trays have acquitted themselves just fine.
Only in extreme situations do they show their deficiencies.

The lifter trays are relatively cheap and I might as well replace them when i change out the cam / springs. Along with the timing set and oil pump dumbell...anything else you guys can think of, I'm new to LS engines but learning.

GM COULD have made some sort of steel lifter retaining device, like they did on the Gen I/ II V8s.
BUT THEY DIDN'T, AND THEY OPENED A PANDORA'S BOX OF POTENTIAL BAD DESIGNS.

While we're on the subject, WHY IN THE ******* HELL DID GM DESIGN THESE ENGINES IN A WAY THAT REQUIRES REMOVAL OF THE CYLINDER HEADS TO SERVICE THE LIFTERS?

Seriously, I want an answer.
GM designed the LS engine platform to be a throwaway engine. Serious here. That’s your answer. I’m great friends with a guy who was on the board of engineering for the development of the first prototypes back in the mid 90’s.

Boy, for a "throwaway engine", they did one that's light years ahead of the Gen II small block in durability and performance.

Any first design engine is going to have a few "weak spots" throwaway or not this is still a pretty good engine...if it's a throw away, throw them my way !

It went better than GM ever dreamed. You could have picked any LS in the yard for $100 20 years ago. Now that the LS platform is completely discontinued and behind us, the value has skyrocketed. Good LS blocks will continue to go up in value for decades to come. The platform is a hotrodders and racers dream come true.

Do yourself a big favor and always order parts from the manufacture when possible. Best way to avoid counterfeit crap. No reason to buy BTR products from anyone except BTR direct.

Brian was just online in the Facebook Ls group over a distributor who had a set of his springs returned and then resold them. The issue is when returned some Chinese crap was swapped into the box and the distributor did not inspect or didn't know the difference before reselling. So it was a legit box, legit distributor but scammed by the first buyer.

I went directly to PAC in Michigan to get my dual springs and Ti retainers. They've been in for 52,000 miles, and still good, so I think theyre genuine. I have a new set I'm going to install this spring.
