Default How long to build oil pressure

Just curious, how long should it take to build oil pressure on a normal start up with hot or cold oil? I just finished doing lifters, and it feels like it takes slightly longer to get pressure than before. When I do get it, it's a healthy 35psi at 190 deg and 55 cold.

It's all stock apart from ls7 lifters.

how long does it take? You should see pressure within a second or 2 of firing.

My guess is maybe 2.5-3 seconds? It's not much longer than before. And the needle jumps to 2-3 psi before going up the rest of the way like normal sometimes.
I did use a bit of assembly lube that's still in the oil. Maybe that's causing a problem?

I'd say odds are very good that your, or my, mental stopwatch isn't too accurate when splitting 10ths of seconds!! But you're probably like me and many others around here, in that after putting together new engines and components, it's only natural to hear sounds that were probably there before. But now they're "louder!" Or think oil pressure takes a half second longer to build. Could be old gauge, different gauge, different sender, or you, whatever. Your numbers are good. Gas it!!! Nothing wrong with GENUINE GM LS7 lifters. I have run them for 10 years/52,000 miles on a .600"+ lift, 232°/250° cam, dual PAC springs (also 52,000 miles on them) with 165lbs seat, 425lbs open. I will say there's not the insurance, or abuse tolerance with them that you'll get with good Johnsons. Up to 7,000-7,300rpm, they're good lifters for the $$$. Start running over 7,500rpm for extended periods in HPDE's, or miss a gear and overrev, and they may not hold up. My .02....

Yup, I hope that's all it is. I've always been nervous since my first engine rebuild. It was a 350 and the first start didn't have oil pressure because I didn't set the pickup right.
