Atk lq9
I have a local shop I have used a lot but they may be slipping a bit lately so I’m looking for options.
I have a short block that needs to be cleaned up so I could go that route, just not sure about timing as well. Local shops that are still running are SLAMMED in my area.
Texas Speed is another option but I don’t think I want to forge this bottom end so they are a bit pricey for what I need/want.
ATK seemed like the only place with an OE like build which is why I’m here asking some pre-questions.

We have the ATK LQ9 short block in stock if you're still looking. There is a limited-time free shipping offer on them so you'd have the price for the short block and tax. You can get a to-the-door quote on our site before providing credit card info.

sent the 2002 LQ9 to the machine shop
2 + weeks went by and I go for a visit, block not bored…
came home called Texas speed, forged 408 short block (sledgehammer) delivered to my door 4 working days later…
I used the 799 heads and a little bigger cam but I’ll probably buy some ported heads and swap them with the 2002 LQ9 when the machine shop calls.
And as expected the machine shop called literally a little while ago and my now 6.2 short block will be ready at the end of the week…
tempted to run 826’s on the 6.2 and port the existing 799’s for the 408.
honestly I really didn’t want the 408 but got pissed so here I am.

Inventory is never a bad thing these days. I would keep both and run what you consider the best for the combo. That being said, 862's are great, but on a 4.065 bore, just do something else. My cheap *** doing exactly what you are doing, I would put the 799's on the 6.2 and some TFS 220's on the 408. Winner all the way around for the $$$.
i also have a 2005 4.8 set up for a turbo in the corner of the barn. The inventory I need are some rollers!
