Ive never used anerobic sealant in an internal engine application, so I don’t know the answer here. I’d have chosen a tiny dab of ultra grey that will dry quickly and never move after you blend it in with your finger and the area there is properly cleaned beforehand.
As far as the anerobic stuff, it needs a lack of air to cure….I need that for my pool liner..lol

JB weld holds fine on cast in my experience, I reattached the cooling jacket on a 8N tractor that froze and popped a close to 6x4 section of the block off. We ground a bevel 1/3 the thickness of the joint where it broke, then coated the block edge and bevel and dropped the piece in, then we coated the junction with a bead of the JB weld and once it dried it got a coat of Ford Red and we sent it. We initially kinda did it just messing around assuming we were going to be splitting the tractor to replace the engine. That tractor ran fine for 15 more years then it got sold and I lost track of it.

I used permeated anaerobic sealant. Yesterday I put some behind the retaining plate and let it sit for about 4 hours. It didn't click in my head that the anaerobic sealant may have been washed away by the oil when I was trying to lubricate the lifters because they were dried out by brake cleaner I had used. If I did make a mistake, no big deal, I’ll pull the pump and timing set off, and throw in a new plate. What’s a few days for a retaining plate anyway? But I was wondering if the sealant would’ve been fine or if I messed up.

Where you put the sealant on that gouge, oil WILL come in contact with it there. I missed that you asked that earlier and I neglected to answer that part of your question.
