Default Valve springs

Okay, I'm a noob but have a strange question so bear with me on my long-winded post. I actually have a Chevy Corvair 6 cylinder but want to use LS beehive valve springs on my engine (lighter weight, better valvetrain control). I bought some used ones that came from a boosted 5.3. Here's my question/dilemma. Those fit fine in the Corvair cylinder head spring pocket, as the outer diameter is 1.20". However, not knowing if I could trust the springs, I ordered a set of the 19420455 springs. They are too big (1.26" outer diameter). Is there a way for me to know which springs to look for that are the narrower diameter or not? I can't really have the spring pockets enlarged.

Additionally, I like the coil bind height of the 19420455 springs (@1.16") better than the earlier style (@1.23") because I have less installed height to work with (Corvair is 1.65" vs. 1.8" stock LS). Even at stock cam lift, it will be close. Maybe I should ask: is there a 1.20" LS beehive spring that has a lower (numerically) coil bind height? My apologies for being such a long and complicated post but I want to try this and hopefully do it right!

Not sure what poundage you need, but a pac 1219 is 1.207” od and 1.100” bind height.

Those are cool but are they listed with a 1.307” diameter? PAC does look like a good company if I can find the right spring.

Looks like summit needs to update. Heres where I grabbed the info last night.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/rsc-pac-1219

if you search by set instead of individual, yes they do show 1.307 dia, so those wont work.

I may be wrong, but I have not seen where you list out the Corvair pocket diameter.

The 1219's are in fact 1.307" There was a typo years ago and everyone has not updated to corre4ct specs yet.

GreenKid, TurboBuick6 works for PAC. List the pocket size you have and he will get out what you need.

Hey folks,

Thanks for highlighting the discrepancy on our site regarding the OD of RSC-PAC-1219. We will correct it to the accurate 1.307" OD.

OP,

To recommend the most suitable spring for your setup, could you provide details on the required install and open pressures, along with the inner and outer diameters of your spring pocket? As a starting point, consider the PAC RSC-PAC-1235-16. We’ve verified the specs below with the PAC catalog. We'll get the coil bind height fixed on our site to reflect the 1.130" height.

Bottom
OD: 1.210"
ID: .805"

Top
OD: 1.035"
ID: .630"

Pressures and heights
Installed: 135 lbs. at 1.800"
Open: 350 lbs. at 1.200"
Coil Bind: 1.130"
Max lift: .600"
