Default Cam my ls1? or swap to ls3?

I purchased a really nice STOCK (other than a magnaflow) 02 Ws6 M6 with around 100k miles, by far the nicest car I have ever owned. I've had BIG cams, nasty idles, and a turbo car that would blow the tires off on the highway.....
So with this new ride im not gonna lie, I LOVE that it is super reliable and easy to drive. BUT I seem to have a lifter starting to tick at idle and its really getting on my nerves, the car is way to nice to pull up somewhere and everyone is staring my nice ride and all I hear is tick tick tick tick tick.....
So anyways I cant just throw lifters in it, as my brain will not allow me to go back stock..

Option 1: Do I stink the car up with a mild cam (mid 220's like summit 8707 or similar) with headers and full exhaust
OR
Option 2: LS3 STOCK valvetrain or with BABY NSR cam (say 210 ish summit 8712?) and keep exhaust stock (except magnaflow)

The Ls3 option would only cost me about $1500 more as I can get a good deal on one right now and I wouldn't be spending any money on the valvetrain or the exhaust with that option. And I could add cam/exhaust later if I got the itch... and that would leave the LS1 for a future project..... or sell it to recoup even more of the cost difference.

Just looking for opinions or ideas, and looking for 400rwhp (or close)

I'm thinking 8720R1 for either. But $1500 more for an LS3, just drop it in as is and go.

Cam it, all day. That LS3 is going to cost more than $1500 difference to swap in. If you need a cam recommendation, Lingenfelter GT-11 or Hawks Sleeper, same cam, different lobes. Super quiet, big power.

The car will be worth more down the road with the original engine.

8720 cam is a good option, If I did the Ls3 id be wanting to just run stock springs and pushrods for now though.

I have everything to install a the Ls3 except the cam sensor/ knock sensor extension harness not sure how it would cost that much to change to a gen 4 block but I might be missing something? I will use a 24X crank

The car is SUPER nice but is a salvage title with 100k so I dunno if the original engine would make it more valuable or not, but I do agree any excess money spent on it at this point will be lost.

LS1 with mods, unless you get Headers & good flowing Exhaust the LS3 is a waste.

Original Engine is a moot point, too many of these cars produced and this one with the salvage title it's not "collector" status.

Like a hot single mom beat the brakes off it.

I’ve seen 40w oil quiet down these noisy lifters…worth a try before you put it on jackstands for 2 years and sell it off for parts. We need pictures of this car BTW…

Surprised at the lack of Ls3 enthusiasm lol.
Which is why I was asking, because I get excited just thinking about a 6.2 swap and it clouds my better judgment.
I will add in that the Ls3 is a fresh rebuild with zero miles.... not that 100k on a ls1 is a big deal but just worth noting, yall got me thinking for sure.

If your aware of all the ins and outs involved in the swap and don't mind. Do the LS3. If I could go back on my last LS1 car I would of done the same thing instead of the typical heads and cam business.

LS3 has much better flowing Heads. Unless you want to do some at minimum 1 3/4" Long Tube Headers with 3" Exhaust it's a waste to keep it stock. You want to run stock Exhaust keep the LS1.

It would eventually get full exhaust, I would just be sending those funds into the engine swap at the moment if I go that route.

Since it's a R title car, I'd say the gains will be better for the LS3. Resale won't matter.

So you are building an LS3? Eh, in that case why not. To slap a cheesey low lift cam in a built motor is a waste, though. Just me putting myself in your shoes, I would stop and really think about the build. The car is very nice, but like everyone else said, the rebuilt title is the downer. If you want a good Summit LS3 8710r1 cam cheap, I have one for sale. I'll throw a curve ball, I would do an iron 6.2 over the LS3 block, with cathedral heads.

Yea the rebuilt title is the only reason I was able to buy such a clean car lol.
I would be buying the engine as a rebuilt short block straight from the machine shop. Rotating assembly is in but it doesn't have a cam, hence the reason I would need one. I already have a set of rec port heads and ls3 intake.

@Ls7colorado,

We vote for the LS3 and @DualQuadDave's deal on an SUM-8710R1! It's a great cam for a setup like this and it'll sound good too! Pair that with some TFS-2500286P .660" duals and some 7.400" or 7.425" pushrods and you should be good to go!

Mine as well drop in new lifters and trays

@Summitracing

I think im convinced on going that route after messaging him, a sponsorship from yall @Summitracing would really speed the swap up lol... jk....

This was my last big cam idle and id be lying if I said I didnt miss it!
I always link your products in my videos, hopefully it has helped some people!

Also will be swapping in a summit 8714 cam I already purchased in my boat in the spring which I know will get some attention!

And fixing to post a video of a reg cab silverado I did a summit 8704 "single plane" cam in, it's super nasty and honestly it's a great "rowdy" truck cam!
