Default Cylinder head question

Hello, I am new to engine building and I recently rebuild a 6.0 gen 3. I thought I torque my cylinder heads to spec using the 1st pass (22 ft/lbs). 2nd pass 90° and final pass 50°. This is the torque specs a Chevy dealership printed out for me. My driver side head is leaking coolant. I'm asking if I could just torque the bolts down tighter if this will fix the problem or do I have to replace the head gasket and head bolts again?? I really don't want to replace them again...

That is the correct procedure. If you did all of that and it is leaking then there is something else wrong. make sure nothing got stock between the head and the block when you put the head on for example. Tightening it down more is probably not going to fix the issue.

Where exactly is it leaking from? Some of the Castec Heads the coolant will come straight through the aluminum, poor casting.

The coolant is coming from the front of the head behind the powersteering and alternator bracket on the drivers side

If I take it off again would I be able to use the same bolts and gasket?

You sure it's the head gasket, and not the steam port fitting thing?

Bingo. This is what I'd be checking first. Especially if the o-rings were not replaced when the steam port tube/plugs were put back on.

Yup that's why I asked where it was leaking. I've seen a couple without that little Gasket there, some people forget to install them.

I thought the only affected heads were Castec-cast 706 heads that only went on 5.3/4.8 engines. But I could be wrong.....

Yup from what I've seen it was the 706 Heads, some of the 243 Heads have weak Rocker Mounts but those cases are very few. I have seen the 706 Heads do it in person, took a vid too. Buddy built a 5.3l with them Heads and had coolant in the oil. Pulled a Valve Cover and watched the coolant come right out of the aluminum.

Yes I know the inital post says a 6.0l so if he has the 317 Heads he'll be fine there. Hopefully the leak is as simple as just that Steam Tube.

Head gasket for sure.
[img alt="So, this little gasket fell out of the head gasket. It looks like something for EGR. Yes, the leak was coming from the head. Could I reuse the same bolts and gasket?
