Well one last setback. I installed my 2-4 main caps backwards like an idiot. Took the crank back out, remeasured and bought a new set of bearings because two of the bearings had wear marks from installing the caps backwards. After it’s all said and done I’m getting .0027-.0028” on the mains, and .0027-.0028” on the rods. I’m very happy with the bearing clearances. After that I finished assembly on the long block. I’m pleased to report that it only takes 15 ft lbs to turn the engine over with no spark plugs. I’m fighting one last exhaust manifold flange stud, and then it goes back in the truck. It’ll be running by the end of the weekend if all goes well.

Well the first oil change was done at 100 miles. Got the assembly lube, and break in oil out. Put some conventional 30 weight oil in. Oil looks good, and minimal metal in the filter. I’ll be changing it again in another 500 miles.
No leaks so far. Cold idle is around 45-47 psi, and hot idle is at 40 psi. Haven’t made any wot runs yet, but at 4500-5000 rpm’s I’m getting 65 psi. Only problem is did run into was the crankshaft position sensor. I had to buy a new ac delco sensor, and performed a crank relearn. Hopefully I’m done with problems for a while. 🤞
Well here’s my 3rd oil change. I preformed another oil change at 500 miles, and now this one at 1500 miles. I only found one single spec of metal in this oil change, and the oil looks great. I’m going to run it on conventional oil for another 1500 miles, and then it’s on to synthetic. Second rebuild was the charm, I guess. Haha. This will be my final update. Thanks everyone for the help.
So only time will tell obviously, but so far the engine is smooth as butter. I was worried about not balancing the new crank to the old rods and pistons, but so far so good. I’ve made several pulls up to redline, which is 6200 rpm’s with this tune. Smooth as silk all the way to the limiter. No noises, no vibes, no nothing. The truck pulls very hard, and oil pressure continues to be excellent. No leaks, no nothing. It sucks to have to rebuild your daily twice in one year, but I’m glad I stuck with it and got it done. I learned a lot along the way. Thanks again for everyone who helped me out. 👍
