Great technical, but more importantly honest info from BTR. Looking forward to seeing the results

Why BTR is going round robin with foundry's is beyond me. A call to Brodix and that would have been job one. If Brodix passed, the foundry casting Mast heads in TX I'm sure would do it. I think they are chasing a crazy China level price for A+ castings which isn't going to happen. I put my $$$ on these not coming to fruition, sadly. Their math is wrong, but if you guys are listening, go for the quality and let the price fall where it may. Edelbrock already has the tech and is making a canted LS3 head now. It works good, but not setting the world on fire. GPI was making their own version of same casting and that's now discontinued. The very best $$$ would be adapting stock LT heads to an LS block and packing it. The heads basically bolt on with minor matching, but need a matching cam/intake to make it work. I know an industry insider and I am coaxing him to try to make this happen.

BTR went down that path a few years ago. You have to buy so many other parts to get the LT head to fit that it negates the low price of the cylinder head itself. Plus, the LT head has the intake and exhaust ports swapped, so even your existing headers won't line up. At the end of the day, you'll probably be pretty close to a set of good aftermarket heads trying to adapt the Gen V head to the engine. For me, I'd say the Gen V head would be better suited to a clean sheet build that someone is planning out as opposed to someone wanting to swap heads as the next step in their modification game.

I don't think there is a lot of market for $4500 LS heads. Price needs to be reasonable.

Brian will be almost $2mil invested in this endeavor at release time. I hope they sell like candy. I’m going to grab a set of rectangles to play with over here.

I saw this in a Facebook post with the heads update. Makes sense that the truck cams are due for an update. Btr has found that big splits between intake and exhaust duration work best with their ls1/ls2/ls3 cams and the truck norris cam, so expect to see that with their new truck v3 cams. 6 degrees of split like their v2 truck cams seemed small to me in comparison.

Dumb question:

Edelbrock had a set of canted valve heads, but it looks like they're not being made any more. Gwatney had a program for them, but it looks like that's over too.

Are these gonna be that much better, or is it the availability of a cathedral port version that makes everyone stoked?

those weren't for small bore were they? These canted valve heads will fit 5.3 and 5.7 bores

If they would work on small bore LSs that would help them to sell to a much larger consumer base. I’d be interested in a set for a max 4.8 or 5.3 turbo build. And if they ACTUALLY are REASONABLE even on N/A builds. As it would be interesting to see Richard Holdner compare canted vs cnc stock vs Chinese aftermarket

Btr has no room for another cnc machine for the heads so these will be sold only by vendors who can use a cnc program to finish these. I am also interested in the cost. Over $2k wouldn't be super reasonable.

If these will be finished by a seperate CNC head shop, will each shop create there own cnc program? I saw on a youtube somewhere, Tooley said that GPI, West Coast Cylinder Heads and LME would all be porting these when they go on sale. Curious who else will finish and sell them.
I have a brand new LS2 lower end to put together and I need a set of heads. I just waited a bit under a year waiting for a CNC porter to get my 799s done with no result. So im cutting ties and will need to buy new.

I imagine that btr will provide the cnc program.

Texas speed has affordable cnc heads if you dont want to wait and you can get your 243/799s back.

I disagree. 2g is very reasonable for a truly USA cast, cnc ported, fully assembled set of heads.

The only fully assembled heads under 2g are either China cast or at best USA as cast with no cnc porting.

Skilled USA labor isn’t cheap. In fact it’s very hard to even find enough skilled labor these days regardless how much you are willing to pay per hour.

Im a technician that works with machinists, cnc programmers, welders, etc. I know what rhe pay rates are and how hard it is to find good guys with these skills. We are always short handed working over time.

Hooper heads has had a blem casting from BTR for a little while now but no updated posted as I'm sure this is going to take some trial and error.

I'd expect to see $3k or less from some of the known porters and then some of the higher end shops will be above that. Example, Hooper mentioned above offers both a 11 degree 6-bolt CNC cathedral and ls3 port head for right around $3k and the valve material and spring package dictates the remainder of the cost. The around and sub $3k offerings would be inline and the guys above and way above are marketing professionals unless there is absolute proof of significant gains.

I am not surprised you disagree. You have proven yourself to be very disagreeable and judgmental here and especially ls1gto.

You put words in my mouth. I said over 2k wouldn't be super reasonable. I would say 1500-2000 would be super reasonable. $2000-3000 would be reasonable.

Any more, and they probably wont sell a ton. If they can price them close to 2k, they will indeed sell a lot. Maybe im wrong and i under estimate those who will spend $3k+ on great heads. I just see so many people buying cheaper parts like richard holdeners low buck truck cam because they save $200 compared to a real btr truck norris cam or another manufacturers cam. $200 isn't a lot of extra money to get a top of the line cam that requires hours of effort to install and tune. But I think a lot of people are cash strapped today and performance upgrades arent always a luxury people can afford.

I haven’t even had an account on ls1gto for a long time. I’m sorry I offended you by voicing a different opinion.

When you said over 2g wouldn’t be reasonable for a USA casting fully asssmbled head I just wanted to point out there aren’t any USA casting fully assembled cnc ported head sets under 2g that I’m aware of. You can barely buy cnc ported oem castings fully assembled outright under 2g.
