Testing stock oil filter bypass
I'm going to do the first oil change on a truck with an lq9 that I got, and I saw that the oil filter bypass is built into the pan rather than the filter. I was wondering if there is any way to test it other than just a visual inspection/seeing if it moves. I have no reason to think it's bad or anything like that so I don't want to get crazy trying to replace it, just am curious and want to learn a thing or two.
Thanks!
Seth
IF you, or someone else swapped a Gen IV pan on there, I wouldn't even bother with testing the valve, I would just delete it. Get an appropriately sized bolt, and put that in it's place.

Also, use a bigger oil filter than that one; that short oil filter is intended for the shallow sump F-body pans. You have the clearance for it.
