Default Has anyone successfully modified an F-body pan for more capacity?

Since I have to pull my engine out to put bearings in it, I'd like to fix my oiling system. The thing is, I can't justify the $1200 bill for a Moroso pan when it's still only 6 qt capacity AND I'd have to install a remote filter. Are there any other choices for oil pans when using a tubular K-member? If not, why couldn't I have kickouts welded to my factory F-body pan? I talked to my fab guy and he says he could weld thicker sheet aluminum to the cast pan. I was thinking of maybe using a hole saw to cut a few holes on the sides at the base of the pan, then "D"ing them at the bottom, then having him weld kickout boxes on each side to get the capacity up to around 7 qts. Add an Improved Racing baffle and space the pickup up slightly, and I feel like my oiling system would be in much better shape. However, I have seen nothing on welding up kickouts on a stock pan. Is it possible?

I have no doubt that it could be done and yes the Moroso 21150 pan and oil filter relocate kit is pricey. The oil filter for it is double the size of a stock oil filter and it holds a quart of oil on its own. I run 6 quarts so it's generally holding 5 qts in the pan when operating. Moroso has come out with a 7qt pan (21149) but you will need to purchase a pickup tube and windgage tray seperately so you'd be back to spending upwards of 1K.

It's looking like my only option besides modifying my stock pan is to get a Moroso 20143 pan, which is 7 qts. and seems to have good reviews from those who have used it for drag racing. Still ends up $700 by the time I buy it plus a pump pickup.

Isn't this a 4th Gen Fbody car? The reason I asked is because 20143 is for later model cars with LS engines and the 4th Gen is specific to clear the rack-n-pinion.

Yes, it is. Moroso says the 20143 and 21159 ( aluminum version ) fit every generation of F-body, except the LT cars.

I'm using the summit racing 7 qt steel oil pan with the spin on oil filter. It's cheap, the pan was flat on the rails and hasn't leaked for me in a couple years of use.

I saw that, but it had a lot of bad reviews. Then again, how many people buy them with no issues?

Would a C5 batwing oil pan help you out at all? I have no idea if it would fit your project.

No, it still has too little capacity. I need extra for cooling purposes.

Just FYI I used an Autokraft LS swap oil pan on my 67 Nova project. Don't recall the capacity.

Have you verified if an LS3 8.5 QT Oil Pan fits? I don't have a 4th Gen so wouldn't know.

If I remember correctly, the sump area on an LS3 Camaro pan goes too far forward to fit.

FWIW, most of us C5 guys running the batwing pan round off the 6.5qt. capacity to 7qts. Don't know if this will help you out, or not.

I don't think it will fit in my chassis regardless. I've looked at nearly every factory style pan and nothing seems like it will give an advantage over the F-body pan. Just gonna have to go aftermarket.

My kevko pan holds about 8 qts. Total capacity is 10-11 with the remote filter and cooler. Its an older pan that is a bit larger than the current design they sell, but I know he will make you whatever you need if you give dimensions.
