The most common cause of oil consumption on an LS1 is using too thin of an oil. Although GM uses 5W30, it can get a little too thin for proper operation of the engine, especially in warm weather climates like AZ and TX.

Alot of people who switch to 10W30 have found that their consumption problems are minimized or go away altogether.

The problem on f body ls1's is the pcv system the oil pools in the back of the valve cover and the baffles are not good enough to prevent it from being sucked into the throttle body. The solution is to install the Vette pvc system it picks up vapors from under the intake manifold not the valve covers. The quick fix is a catch can so the oil doesn't get into the engine causing detoniation and ring land problems.
