I'm getting down to 10 psi sometimes but I'm having issues with a lifter as well! I'm not sure if some thing went wrong with my cam install or what but I'm going back in this weekend to check the oil pump o ring. weee if I give the throttle a little blip, the oil pressure comes up to about 35-40 and on a cold start, it idles at 40. I've read on here that 10 psi per every 1000 rpms is what we need.

I run Comp R's, Crane doubles and Y/T 1.7's and I have dyno sheets of my car working up to 7000. My car sees 7000 every time we dyno it or race it. Y/T's are decent and are just decent rockers, nothing more, nothing less.

This is what was happening to my lifters:

The last time it happened the roller broke all the way down to the pin. The first 2 times it happend it was probably due to preload, the last time it happened had to be an oil issue since the preload was checked. First two times was with isky springs and the last time was with comp 977 or 978 (which ever ones dont require comp r's).
When I was going to go get teh noise checked out the last time my oil pressure was going normal and then low and back. Some smoke started to come out the exhuast too every now and them, not much but noticable.

If you have resolved the oil pressure issue, preload verification and have purged the spring seat shrapnel from the engine, I'd get into another type of lifter right away...

You may have to modify the lifter to feed pressurized oil to the roller bearings. I use this type of modification all the time on my customer's solid roller camshafts that see any street duty.

Another item is to look into the new Morel lifters. These are top shelf pieces that have some of the best machining tolerances I have ever witnessed. Pricey but the best.

*You may have done some serious damage to the cylinders/ring set with the valve seat schrapnel so this all may be moot if a rebuild is required...

Ed

Spring pressure 125 closed, 375 open

Looks like motor will have to come out

Damn Greg, you've had a lot of problems with this car.

Best of luck getting it all ironed out.

Ouch, I'd start looking at the cam, etc... You could easily kill a lobe with a lifter like that. Plus like Ed said if junk went through the motor you may not have any bearing left (which would explain low oil pressure).

That's not crazy spring pressure that's pretty normal.

Pushrod length? Milled heads?

Too much preload will kill lifters, cam lobs (as Jarrod indicated) and you will also make less power than optimal.

The open seat pressure is pretty high IMO, but I don't think it's high enough to cause problems. Mine are 155/355.

The heads were milled .030 initially, .035 now. Pushrods are 7.4, they were 7.350 with the comp r's, and back to 7.4 for the comps.

I agree. 10psi is too low. I'm seeing around 30-35 at idle. Mine only ticks between about 2k and 2800 rpm, not at idle or above 3k rpm (oil pressure gets to about 55-60psi).

I'm running .055 milled heads, Comp R lifters, T/Y rockers and hardened pushrods 1 size smaller than stock, REV double springs w/Ti retainers and a new oil pump....

No rocker issues here after 15K miles....

Thanks for the info Ed. TTP is already in the process of building me a brand new LS6 shortblock to be sure. New block, lifters, pistons, bearings, crank, blah blah blah.

I'd rather be running 145, I'm sure my lifters hate me.
