I need some advice, I want to go as quick as possible cam only. I only drive the car on the weekend's & dyno #'s dont really matter to me. I want the best cam for the track. Currently my best 1/8 times are 8.0 in the Florida heat.. Thanks for help, again

 

TR227 (227/224 .569/.563 114 LSA): 2200-6800 RPM Power Band
TSP228R (228/224 .588"/.581", 112 LSA): 2100-6600 RPM Power Band

Hmm,
227 pros: 114 lsa for A4, less lift. cons: power band 200rpms higher
228R pros: useable power band cons:112 lsa for A4

I'd only steer towards the TR227 due to the 114 lsa for the A4, but nowadays' tuning makes 112 streetable for A4's, so it's a tossup.

It's a toss up, but you can't go wrong with either.

 

I've been going back-n-forth on both of them, TSP is really easy to deal with. I was thinking about the (228/228 .588/.588, 112) but not sure if my vig 3200 & 3.42 gear would pair up good with it? The TR227 has been out for awhile now & with the 114 might be better with the auto like SouthFL.02.SS stated.

 

Don't let the 112 LSA scare you! I'm running our 231/231, .598"/.598", 112 LSA camshaft in my '02 SS A4 with absolutely no problems. I took my car out of town on business this past Tuesday, and it still averages 23.5 MPG doing 75 MPH on the highway with the a/c blowing cold. The tune will make or break the setup. So long as you have a good tune in the car you'll be just fine.

The 228R (228/228, .588"/.588", 112 LSA) was the second camshaft that we tried in my '02 SS. With stock cylinder heads, it ran a best of 11.41 @ 116.85 MPH on a 1.53 60'. The camshaft will consistently net 40-45 RWHP at peak and still make some great mid-range power. If you are a stickler for the 114 LSA, we can have one custom-ground for you with your desired LSA for no additional charge.

Yea, don't pick a cam just because it has a higher LSA. Get what you want. I am A4 with a slightly bigger cam on a 111+2. Has great manners Just bitchy at startup on cold days

 

...and even that's fix-able in the tune (if you know where to look).

 

mine is the same way..232/238 6xx 6xx 111+2 if its in the low 30's it still starts up but may die after a few minutes,but it will start right up after...This only happens if its in the low mid 30's temps..Dont drive it too much in winter so its not a concern,and mos times its in the 40's here so no big deal..Anyother time it fires up and drives,but if its in the 30's I really let it warm up and it drives fine and does not stall at all

 

To the OP sorry about the the HIJACK.....

Tell me My tuner is VERY well respected and touched up the cold start tune once and it got better but still is a little bitchy when it is cold out.

I always just attributed some of it to low IQ of my 98 PCM

I've read a lot about cams but I just dont have any hands on experience with them especially a cam in a LS1 motor (i'm like the only guy in my area with a LS1) but I was wondering what cam you guys would suggest for an 02 ss m6 with a stock motor.. my plans as of now are to keep it a cam only car.. I drive it quite regularly so what i'm asking is what would be a streetable cam I could drive every day but still make some good power?

Talk with the sponsors about a custom cam spec'd for what you have. Also Patrick G and Predator Z give very good cam advice for specific applications.
