Default head studs don't fit on new iron block?

did the casting change recently on the 6.0 iron blocks? cause i have a situation where the arp studs that fit on an older motor seem to be too long for the new one. the threads in the block don't seem to go as deep as the old ones.

anyone aware of that? where can i get head studs for it ?( does arp even know of this situation?)

What if you call ARP tech support. I've talked to them before and they seem to be pretty helpful folks.

GM changed the 6.0 block not long ago, and we found out the hard way too! The cam bearings are larger, and they also changed the head bolts. The old blocks used three different lengths, and now the new ones just use two. Last I checked ARP only had head studs available, and were working on head bolts.

We keep the 2nd design cam bearings in stock from Dura Bond. Let me know if I can help with anything!!

i just talked to arp about that and they said that they are on back order for at least 2 weeks.

the part number for the individual studs (basically the intermediate size stud- bolt) is : ATP5.150-1LGB

any ideas where i could find them?

Is there a different casting number on these blocks, because I already have a set of high dollar L19 Headstuds for the old style, and dont want to have to buy another

update: ARP is planning on making the kit, it's somewhere in the "heading" department but the lady said it could be anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks!

from comparing both blocks i saw the new one has a "12" cast on the pass side front of the deck surface.
i guess the easiest way to know is look into the bolt holes ( any one of the middle ones) and if you see the bottom (about 3 to 4 inches deep) then you have the new one.

Can the 'normal' LS1 stud kits be used with either block?

The casting #'s are the same. You should have 16 long studs. If you have the new block you will need a total of 20. they no longer use the 4 short studs.

No, you won't have enough long studs.

On the aluminum blocks they went to all short bolts in all 20 holes. The old block kits will not work on newer block.

so the aluminum block got revised too.....
does anyone think the shorter bolts / studs will resist stretching and thus lifting the head due to the shorter length?
